Flying the Flag for UitsigARc

Ian and Sam have been best friends for over 15 years now, and they haven’t seen each other since Sam left South Africa in 2010.  They kept in touch and it was always talked about doing something really cool and adventurous and a road trip was on the top of their list, so they made that dream a reality and have put the plans in place to drive from the east coast to the west coast of the US and back in one month, taking in as many sights as they can while on the trip. However, they felt that they didn’t want to just do it for themselves, but wanted to do it for something bigger and make a positive difference in the world in some way. At the same time as they were planning their road trip Ian & Sam became aware of Uitsig Animal Rescue Centre being given three months to vacate their premises to make way for a housing project, which would potentially result in the deaths of the over 500 animals in their care. As they both love animals, they immediately knew that this was the cause that they wanted to help in any possible way, and so Ian & Sam contacted us to see what they could do

Firstly a bit about me, Sam; I grew up in South Africa and Cape Town is my home, but 3 1/2 years ago I decided to move to the USA to pursue my education. I initially studied in Washington DC at a community college, as it was all I could afford at the time, but after two and a half years I was fortunate enough to be awarded a Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate transfer scholarship worth $90,000, which allowed me to continue my degree. I am currently studying a BFA in Motion Media Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia.

Hi, and I am Ian,  I work in Real Estate and live in Cape Town, South Africa. I enjoy trail running and exploring the surrounding mountains and taking hikes with Blaize, my never quitting trail buddy Jack Russell!!! I enjoy setting goals and achieving them and have recently got into triathlons and completed my first Ironman 70.3.  I am still an absolute novice in the sport but enjoying the challenges and discipline it brings. I believe that we should help those who cannot help themselves and give back to the less fortunate.

It is our intention to fly the flag for UitsigARC, so wherever we find ourselves during our travels we will spread the word and raise awareness to hopefully bring in the much needed funds to assist UitsigARC in buying their own land.  Follow our journey and enjoy our experience through the photos to be taken along the way.

We would greatly appreciate your support and donations towards this truly worthy cause (Ref: USA / Name)
